Teardrop Trailer Buying Guide: What First-Time Owners Should Know
← All Guides

Buying your first teardrop trailer means making a handful of decisions that are hard to undo later — size, weight, and how you'll actually use it. Here's what to think through before you buy, and how Rovikk's process is set up to help.

Questions to Answer Before You Shop

What's your actual budget, including financing? Rovikk trailers range widely depending on model and line — from around $20,000 for the lightest highway builds up into the mid-$40,000s for a fully equipped FanCave. Rovikk doesn't offer in-house financing — most customers finance through their own bank or credit union, though Rock Solid Funding is one option some buyers use. Rovikk can provide any documentation your lender needs. All orders require a 20% deposit to secure your build slot, with the remaining balance due before pickup — and if you're going the custom Coachworks route, a separate $2,500 design fee is required upfront as well, before the deposit.

What can your tow vehicle actually handle? This should narrow your options significantly before you even start comparing features. Check your vehicle's real tow rating and tongue weight capacity — not just what sounds reasonable.

Off-road or highway? Rovikk's lineup splits into off-road-capable models (Cadet, Scout, Ranger, Commander, General) built with axle-less suspension and articulating hitches, and highway-focused models (Nomad, Trek, Sojourn) built lighter and simpler for pavement travel. Be honest about how much rough terrain you'll actually be towing over.

How many people, and how much gear? Sleeping capacity and storage needs should drive size more than anything else. A trailer that's too small becomes a hassle fast; one that's too big adds unnecessary weight and cost.

Try Before You Buy

If you're not sure a teardrop trailer is right for you yet, Rovikk offers rentals — and renting first gets you $500 off if you decide to purchase afterward. It's a low-risk way to test what living out of a teardrop actually feels like before committing.

What Happens After You Buy

A trailer is a long-term purchase, so it's worth knowing what support looks like before you're locked in. Every Rovikk trailer comes with a one-year warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship, backed by an in-house full-service garage with repair and service packages (Tier 1, 2, and 3) available for maintenance and repairs down the line — so you're not on your own once the trailer leaves the lot.

Getting Started

Once you have a rough sense of budget, tow capacity, and how you'll use the trailer, the easiest next step is comparing models side by side, then configuring your build in the online builder tool to see real pricing.
